Asbestos Surveys

Asbestos Inspections

It’s still around and still dangerous

Sawnee Environmental Services is certified to perform Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) building inspections for asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). We routinely conduct asbestos inspections for renovation and demolition projects at residential properties, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings in Georgia.

An asbestos inspection can be thought of as a two-part process. The first part is the asbestos survey in which the inspector creates an inventory of suspect asbestos-containing building materials, estimates the quantity and assesses the physical characteristics of each material. Once the survey is complete, samples can be collected and submitted to a laboratory for asbestos testing. The number of samples required is generally determined by AHERA sampling protocols. The objective of an asbestos inspection has less to do about finding asbestos and more about proving a material is not asbestos-containing.

Sawnee Environmental Services can help limit potential abatement costs by providing a thorough asbestos inspection report. A quality inspection report is crucial in obtaining worthwhile abatement estimates should ACMs be present at your project. Our asbestos inspection reports include easy to understand floor-plans which clearly identify the locations of ACMs, photographs that support sample identification, and a project specific discussion of our findings and relevant laws and regulations. Simply hiring an abatement company first to perform asbestos testing may create a conflict of interest and could result in inflated abatement costs. Sawnee Environmental Services is not an abatement contractor nor is it affiliated with any asbestos abatement companies.

Asbestos in buildings is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). Regulations are complicated and violations carry potential civil and criminal liabilities stemming from regulatory compliance issues, improper disposal activities, environmental contamination, and/or exposing persons to a known carcinogen. Choosing an experienced asbestos company is paramount for avoiding complications. Asbestos presents a real and dangerous threat so whether it’s a simple ceiling job or demolishing an entire building, if you have an upcoming project that you would like to discuss, please contact us today.
